چکیده
C O GI bleeding (GIB) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Endoscopic management of GIB could be challenging, despite the existing advancements in hemostatic techniques; there are unmet needs for the introduction of topical hemostatic agents in management of profound venous or arterial GIB and malignant lesions with a large surface area that are not quite amenable to traditional endoscopic hemostatic techniques. Many topical hemostatic agents have been developed over the past 50 years with widespread medical applications.1 The inroduction of topical hemostatic agents in the modern urgical era can be traced back to 1909, when Bergel first iscussed the use of topical fibrin for hemostasis. This lass of preparations, known as fibrin sealants, marked the eginning of wide spectrum of topical hemostatic agents ith various mechanisms of action. Gelatin-based hemostatic agents2 and cyanoacrylate adhesives3 were 2 more common topical hemostatic agents introduced in the 1940s.1 In the 1970s, a new class of gents, namely, microfibrillar collagen products, were synhesized by purifying and processing bovine collagen4; these were then manipulated to different hemostatic agents that were used in various surgical specialties for achieving hemostasis. In 1998, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Tisseel, the first commercial fibrin sealant. These compounds were used as surgical hemostatic and adhesive material.5 Other topical hemotatic agents, including topical thrombin,6 endoscopic pray of clotting factors,7 and topical sucralfate,8 have een introduced in limited clinical data with various outomes. More recently, additional agents have been dapted to digestive endoscopy and the management of IB. We review the mechanisms of action of powderased topical hemostatic agents and their efficacy and

Evaluation of Topical Tranexamic Acid on Intraoperative Bleeding in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
Tranexamic acid (TA) is an antifibrinolytic agent which reduces bleeding following certain surgical procedures. The present study was performed on 56 patients, scheduled for elective endoscopic sinus surgery under general anesthesia, to examine the effects of topical TA on providing a bloodless surgical field and evaluate the bleeding volume. The study comprised 26 patients who received topical...
متن کاملMechanical Hemostasis Techniques in Nonvariceal Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding.
One of the most important advances in gastroenterology has been the use of endoscopic hemostasis techniques to control nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding, particularly when high-risk stigmata are present. Several options are available, including injection therapy, sprays/topical agents, electrocautery, and mechanical methods. The method chosen depends on the nature of the lesion and ex...

Background and Objective: The control of parenchymal hemorrhage especially in liver parenchyma, despite improvements in surgical science, is still one of the challenges that surgeons are facing with. Therefore, introducing an effective method to control liver bleeding is of important research priority. This study aimed to compare the hemostatic effect of calcium sulfate and ferric chloride on c...
متن کاملRecent Developments in the Endoscopic Treatment of Patients with Peptic Ulcer Bleeding
Peptic ulcer bleeding is an internal medical emergency. Endoscopic hemostasis has been shown to improve the survival rate of patients with peptic ulcer bleeding. Although the established hemostatic modalities, including injection, thermal therapy, and mechanical therapy, are effective in controlling peptic ulcer bleeding, hemostasis can be difficult to achieve in some cases. As a result, recent...
متن کاملReview on Effect of Hemorrhages in Rescuing Casualties from Fatalities
Introduction: High bleeding due to hypolemia may cause early death. If injured persons hospitalized due to trauma, they may more likely to die. Methods for bleeding control include mechanical, heat treatment, drug therapy, or topical hemostats. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of hemorrhage and their usages in all emergency bleeding cases (in the years of 2008-2019). In t...
